FIGHT IT, CHALLENGE IT AND CRUSH IT

As Sri Lanka dropped further down the pit in the latest Corruption Perceptions Index (CPI) compiled by Transparency International (TI) for 2023 – to 115th place, from 101st – the need to combat bribery and corruption cannot be overemphasised.

Corruption has and will continue to pose a multi-tude of challenges, which have far-reaching and devastating consequences for societies, economies and individuals.

For three decades, LMD has campaigned against corruption, championing integrity, -transparency and accountability. Since its inception in 1994, the magazine has relentlessly pursued this cause, believing in the transformative power that media holds in driving change.

LMD’s campaign to ‘Stop Corruption’ has encompassed more than merely a series of articles; it’s been a relentless pursuit of truth and fairness – the essence of this one of a kind campaign has been ‘fight it, challenge it and crush it.’

Such slogans have been the guiding principles -behind our pursuit of integrity, transparency and accountability.

As LMD celebrates 30 years since its pioneering launch in August 1994, we mark our unwavering commitment to this cause and reflect on the future, given that corruption has become part and parcel of the world we live in.

Yes, corruption is endemic not only in our neck of the woods but across most of Planet Earth… but the cost of turning a blind eye to it is immeasurable – in fact, the perilous state of our nation at this juncture may well be a result of the ‘give and take’ culture that, let is be said, the people continue to pay lip service to.

In a world where the forces of corruption may seem insurmountable, LMD remains steadfast in its belief that a more just society has to unfold if Sri Lanka is to do justice to its untold potential.
