SMS HOLDINGS GROUP WELCOMES TWO VISIONARY DIRECTORS TO SPUR INNOVATION AND GROWTH

SMS Holdings Pvt Ltd, a trailblazer in diverse business domains, announced the appointment of two young dynamic directors, Ashan Senevirathne and Nesha Senevirathne, to its board.

Founded 23 years ago, SMS Holdings has achieved remarkable milestones under the astute leadership of Chairman and Managing Director Shehan Senevirathne. The addition of Ashan and Nesha marks a pivotal moment for the company as it embarks on a new chapter of innovation and expansion.

“We started this with an initial capital of Rs. 150,000, three directors and two employees. It’s been a long journey. We have diversified into landscaping, plantation, hotels, real estate and security services. Now we are expanding our cinnamon export especially to the European market. With these two new directors I think we will able to take it to next level,” said Shehan Senevirathne at a press conference on Tuesday.

“I’m very humbled and excited to be part of this family and to be appointed director. I have seen how it has grown in the footsteps of my father and ventured into different industries,” said Ashan Senevirathne, a distinguished graduate from Monash University Clayton in Australia.

With an impressive track record including projects for renowned organizations such as Defence Australia and Coca-Cola, Ashan excels as an IT project manager at the Royal Children’s Hospital Australia. His vision encompasses revolutionising Sri Lanka’s digital landscape by introducing cutting-edge technologies like Internet of Things (IoT), machine learning, and artificial intelligence.

“I hope with all these expertise and experience I had acquired over the years and with my roles and responsibilities that I will contribute to the growth of SMS Holdings by adding more value from what I have learnt. Coming from the IT industry, what I’m looking forward is more process improvement using new technology,” said Ashan, 27, the elder of the two siblings.

“I want to see how we can use IoT and other intelligent systems to increase productivity. Also, how we can automate more of these processes and meet the demand,” said Ashan.

“In the long term, I’m trying to make Sri Lanka one of the biggest South Asian development hub in terms of engineering of applications and systems. I’m having discussions to set up infrastructure here to give thousands of people jobs here and create a big market for development teams and become biggest hub spot in terms of technology,” he asserted.

Nesha’s vision extends to expanding SMS export worldwide, with a focus on elevating the brand through high-quality cinnamon products. Additionally, she will spearhead initiative to strengthen the Australian arm of the group, forging stronger ties between Sri Lanka and Australia.

Her experience leading operations teams at Master Builders Australia demonstrates her acumen in strategic governance and international relationships.

“I think technology-wise it’s like the systems we use there (Australia) I like to input here. Our field is more into training department but we also see everything going behind on the operation side of it. We do want to make a difference by adding better things, especially processes and stuff like IT,” said Nesha, a distinguished graduate in international business and business management.

With the blessings of SMS Holdings’ founders, Shehan Senevirathne and Vipuli Senevirathne, Ashan and Nesha are poised to contribute their expertise, drive innovation, and elevated SMS Holdings to unprecedented heights. Their appointment underscores the company’s commitment to embracing emerging technologies and enhancing global partnerships.
