Q: As a leader in customer excellence in the cables sector that ranks among the top four in building materials, how has recognition in this area influenced your approach to quality and innovation in your product offerings?

Additionally, we proactively anticipate customer needs, ensuring product quality and service. By enhancing our team’s customer-centric mindset in the decision-making process, we consistently deliver on innovation and excellence.

Q: Why should customer excellence always be a priority? And how does your organisation ensure this?

A: The organisation guarantees product quality and addresses customer requirements through rigorous quality assurance protocols, and a strong emphasis on understanding and responding to customer needs. By continuously monitoring and evaluating our products and processes, we ensure that they meet the highest standards.

Moreover, we actively gather feedback from customers to refine our offerings, making certain that they align with market demands and preferences. This proactive approach enables us to consistently deliver high quality products that exceed customer expectations.

Q: Fire-resistant cables are essential in today’s safety conscious environment. What developments and advantages do Sierra fire-resistant cables offer?

A: Our fire-resistant cables are designed to prevent the spread of fire, reducing the risk of injury and loss of life during fire emergencies. These cables maintain circuit integrity, allowing power and communication systems to continue operating in critical infrastructure, such as hospitals, airports and emergency services.

The cables contain a mica tape that withstands temperatures of up to 950°C, allowing the circuit to remain intact for up to three hours, ensuring sufficient time for a complete evacuation.

This functionality ensures effective communication, control of fire safety systems and enhanced emergency response. Additionally, the power systems installed in our fire-resistant cables are internationally recognised for mitigating fire risks and ensuring human safety.

Sierra Cables manufactures fire-retardant cables, available in the retail market under the fire protect label. These cables feature a high oxygen index sheathing material, which delays ignition and controls fire propagation if exposed to flames.

We have also developed a new fire-retardant product, set to launch once the relevant standard (SLS 733 Part 2) is published in the near future. These new cables will feature distinctive traffic purple sheathing for easy identification.

Enhanced safety is ensured with all cables undergoing rigorous quality assurance protocols. This ensures that they meet stringent industry standards and regulations prior to being released to the market.

Q: What product qualities have contributed to the success in the EU and US markets, and how do you ensure that they meet export standards?

A: When expanding into European and US cable markets, we focus on three key areas – product quality, competitive pricing and overall lead time.

Sierra Cables’ over four decades of manufacturing experience, highly qualified customer-centric team at all levels, cutting-edge industry knowledge, and technology and state-of-the-art machinery, allow us to meet global quality and service expectations.

To ensure competitive pricing, we maintain a well organised supply chain that leverages a cost-effective pricing strategy for raw materials. Our commitment to operational excellence enables efficient and effective manufacturing processes. In addition, comprehensive planning further optimises total operational lead time, ensuring timely product deliveries.

Q: And what are your organisation’s future plans?

A: We have exciting plans for the future, which include expanding our overseas operations to several countries. We’re currently engaged in several iconic projects such as the Port Access Elevated Highway Project from Fort to the Ingurukade Junction and the Marina Square mixed development project.

Additionally, we are focussing on increasing our production capacity to meet the growing demands of consumers.
