HANDMADE TILES PENETRATE FOREIGN MARKETS

Q: Could you provide a glimpse into Samson Rajarata Tiles?

A: It is a subsidiary of the DSI Samson Group and one of Sri Lanka’s largest reputed homegrown business conglomerates. Samson Rajarata Tiles specialises in manufacturing varied terracotta products such as roofing, flooring and wall tiles in various shapes, sizes, colours and textures.

Our premium quality products that have been manufactured over generations can withstand different environmental conditions and weather patterns. We are the only handmade roofing clay tile manufacturer that customises clay roofing tiles in Sri Lanka.

Modern technology enables us to create aesthetic roofing tile designs, which incorporate features such as interlocking systems that make them easier and quicker to install.

Furthermore, the lower water absorption rate (<10%), impermeability, transverse strength and monkey-proof features add more value to the roofing tiles. They differentiate our products from competitors in the market.

Q: What has the company’s global journey been like?

A: We specialise in producing tailor-made products, which are designed to meet the specific requirements of both our domestic and international clients. And after successfully completing over 20,000 projects we have a portfolio of more than 1,500 local and international clients.

Over one million handmade tiles are exported by the company every year. We export handmade roofing tiles to the UK, Germany, India, the UAE, China and the Maldives, and are currently partnering with key players in these markets.

Our handmade roofing tile market can be classified into residential, commercial and industrial segments. The residential segment is expected to expand at a faster pace owing to the increase in construction of residences across Europe.

Q: What importance do you place on handmade roofing tiles?

A: Rajarata Tiles is tapping into the strong demand for high quality customised handmade clay tiles to provide an aesthetic finish to roofs. This is the speciality of our handmade tiles. As a result, our handmade roof tiles reflect a bespoke character.

Our handmade roofing tiles are manufactured using high quality natural raw materials. Clay for the manufacturing process is sourced from the desilting process and fired at over 900°C to improve the strength of the tile. Liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) is used for firing and this reduces carbon emissions during the manufacturing process.

At Rajarata Tiles, we believe that sustainability is a way of life and not simply a buzzword. We are committed to continuing our efforts to create products that are environmentally-friendly and socially responsible.

We also customise the colours and textures of our handmade roofing tiles, and create new colours to make our customers’ design vision a reality. Rajarata’s handmade roof tiles are coloured naturally through skilled craftsmanship. Orange, brown, restoration, weathered and dark colours are fast-moving customised shades in the market. Other colours and textures can be created according to the requirements of customers.

Our handmade customised coloured tiles don’t fade and instead attain a mature and mellow appearance with use. Rajarata Tiles is convinced that natural colours produce a superior appearance and have a more enduring appeal.

Q: Do the handmade roofing tiles conform to international standards and are they available locally?

A: Our handmade roofing tiles go beyond customer expectations and conform to international and European standards. Further, Rajarata’s handmade roofing tiles are the only ones available locally.

The company invites local customers to rely on Rajarata Handmade Roofing Tiles to fulfil their roofing requirements and guarantees a high quality product. We are committed to producing sturdy handmade roofing tiles that will last a lifetime.
