Samson International (SIL) was the gold award winner for the second consecutive year for manufacturing companies with a turnover of up to Rs. 5 billion at the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Sri Lanka’s (CA Sri Lanka) 56th Annual Report Awards ceremony in 2021.

This prestigious accolade represents the highest standard achieved for transparency, clarity, good governance and social responsibility in financial reporting.

Speaking about this achievement, Head of Finance at Samson International Sisira Abeywickrama thanked the board of directors and staff, for their dedication and hard work. He also stated that everyone at SIL ensured the timely completion of the report – while continuously striving to deliver a balanced and relevant report, ensuring adequate disclosures.

A subsidiary of DSI Samson Group, SIL is a pioneer in rubber manufacturing and exporting in Sri Lanka. Established in 1988 with the intention of manufacturing rubber-based products for export markets, the company now caters to a global customer base in over 30 countries.

Financial year 2020/21 was challenging for exporters due to the pandemic; expenses rose substantially due to increases in raw material and shipping costs. However, the company reported its highest ever turnover and profit, proving that disasters are not obstacles if an organisation has the grit to face them.

With over 100 completed projects, SIL takes pride in being the market leader in many of its product categories including rubber parking accessories – such as rubber speed humps, corner guards, wall guards and wheel stoppers under its brand DSI Parking Accessories – and gym flooring products under the DECOSIL brand name.

The company’s diversified product range also includes rubber components for many industrial applications such as gaskets, washers, conveyer belts, automotive components and many other customised products.

The PVC product range marketed under the Samson PVC brand saw tremendous growth over the last couple of years and has become a household name in Sri Lanka. The company manufactures a wide range of pressure and non-pressure pipes and fittings, which are distributed islandwide through its distributer network.

A trendsetter in Sri Lanka’s rubber industry, Samson International was the first rubber manufacturing company to obtain ISO 90001 quality certification in the country. SIL gives utmost priority to sustainable and ethical manufacturing practices, during its production and delivery processes.

To this end, it has obtained ISO 14001 certification for environmental management, ISO 50001 certification for energy management and Business Social Compliance Initiative (BSCI) certification for ethical sourcing. It also holds Forest Stewardship Council (FSC) certification to manufacture FSC certified rubber products.

Recognising these efforts towards ethical and sustainable manufacturing, SIL was awarded the first ever National Chamber of Exporters of Sri Lanka (NCE) challenge trophy for being the best ethical trading exporter at the recently concluded 29th NCE Annual Export Awards.

Samson International believes that a strong commitment to delivering quality by focussing on sustainable practices will enable an organisation to establish a strong foothold in the marketplace and become a market leader.
