Opex Donates 1.5 Million worth Fertilizer to Assist Farmers

Donation to Gangarama Temple Will Benefit Farmers in Several Areas

Colombo, Monday 11th May 2020: Opex Holding (Pvt) Ltd, a well-established agri-input company with more than 5 decades of experience in Sri Lanka recently made a donation worth more than 1.5 million Sri Lankan Rupees to assist the farmer community in the island. The donation was made via the Gangarama Temple in Colombo and will reach farmers in areas such as Sooriyawewa, Keeraketiya and Ingiriya.

The donation was presented to Chief Incumbent of the Gangarama Temple Assaji Thero by Romesh Tissainayagam Manager Human Resources & Administration and Charith Senanayake, Deputy General Manager – Sales at Opex Holding (Pvt) Ltd on the 4th of May 2020.

Accepting the donation Chief Incumbent of the Gangarama Temple Assaji Thero said, “We are extremely grateful to Opex Holdings for coming forward during these difficult times to assist our farming community in Sri Lanka. Our country has a proud history in agriculture but sadly our farmers are in dire straits due to the Covid-19 pandemic. A drop in imports means there is less fertilizer available and even then our farmers do not have the funds to purchase the expensive foreign products. At a time like this it is indeed a blessing for a local company to come forward to make a donation of this nature.”

Also commenting on the decision to make such a donation Managing Director Onesh Subasinghe noted, “Opex Holdings has for more than 50 years silently assisted Sri Lanka’s agriculture industry. As the first homegrown company to manufacture specialty liquid fertilizers for both Sri Lanka and India, we felt a need to assist our farmers at this time of need. Sri Lanka has the potential and ability to be self-sufficient and at a time when food safety and global demand for food is an increasingly important discussion, we are committed to assist the endeavors of the Sri Lankan Government as well”.

“Sri Lanka is at a point in history when local alternatives to fertilizer is of paramount importance. The products and solutions we manufacture have the ability to substitute straight fertilizer by 75% whereby helping the nation to save on huge outflows of USD at a time when there is a scarcity of USD. The current straight fertilizer import value is estimated to be in excess of USD 200 million per annum. Our product has also been certified environmentally friendly as heavy metal is either not detected or present only in miniscule levels in the products”.

Opex manufactures and markets a range of liquid fertilizers among other agri-products which can be used for various types of crops. Details on the range are available on
