Public Programmes at the Museum of Modern and Contemporary Art Sri Lanka

Public programmes at the Museum of Modern and Contemporary Art Sri Lanka (MMCA Sri Lanka) give the general public an opportunity to experience the museum beyond what is offered in walk-in visits, by welcoming visitors to engage in creative, reflective, and recreational activities in response to what is offered on display in exhibitions. The Public Programmes curated for September alongside its current exhibition titled ‘The Foreigners’ include:

  • A Curator’s Tour with Sandev Handy, the lead curator of ‘The Foreigners’, on 17 September, Sunday from 11 am–12 pm
  • On 22 September Friday, join Sakina and Tashyana from 6–7 pm for a unique listening experience of poetry, performance, music, and sound in response to ‘The Foreigners’, on view until 22 October 2023.
  • On 23 September, Saturday from 11 am–12 noon, a Thinking Circle titled ‘On Beauty’ will be open for children aged between 15–18 years. At this event, Shivani Mohta Jobanputra, a youth mentor and art educator, will facilitate a discussion among young people and challenge them to critically explore their opinions of ‘beauty’ in connection with the artworks on view in ‘The Foreigners’.
  • On 30 September, Saturday there will be a series of Kids’ Activity Sessions from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. curated as part of the museum’s special public programming for Children’s Day. These activities have been prepared using the approach of Social Emotional Learning, to encourage and foster children’s creative and critical thinking, and social and emotional wellbeing.
  • On 1 October, Sunday a special Children’s Day Curator’s Tour will be conducted by Sharmini Pereira, Chief Curator at the MMCA Sri Lanka. All children are invited!

The museum is open daily from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. (except on Poya days and public holidays) on the ground floor of Crescat Boulevard, Colombo 3.
