Q: How does your company benchmark excellence?

A: We believe in benchmarking excellence through a combination of metrics and best practices. The first step is to identify the most relevant key performance indicators (KPIs) for our business and industry. These KPIs may include financial metrics such as revenue growth, profitability and return on investment (ROI), as well as operational metrics like customer satisfaction, employee engagement and service quality.

Excellence is also benchmarked by using 14 years of customer satisfaction data, and project and product health reports. In 2022, we were the only IT company in Sri Lanka to be recognised with the ‘Great Place To Work Legends’ award. We have also won the ‘Best IT/ITES Company in Sri Lanka,’ ‘Great Place To Work in Asia’ and ‘Great Place To Work for Millennials and Women’ awards.

We continuously participate in the Great Place To Work surveys to assess ourselves and improve. These recognitions reflect our commitment to maintaining high standards and continuous improvement across all operational areas.

Q: In what ways do awards and accolades enable businesses to strive for betterment?

A: Businesses face many challenges in times of economic turmoil, and awards and accolades can provide motivation to strive for betterment. For example, we won the ‘Best Value-Added Exporter’ award in the extra-large category in 2021. This inspired us to continue upholding the discipline and dedication that earned us the award.

Even amidst economic uncertainty and challenging circumstances, we have managed to bring in a substantial amount of foreign exchange, which is a testament to our commitment to excellence. Such recognition drives us to continue contributing positively to the economy.

Winning awards provides any business with external validation, which can be particularly meaningful in times of economic turmoil. It offers recognition for doing something well – whether it’s innovating, excellent customer service or strong financial performance.

It can also help businesses stand out from competitors and showcase their unique value proposition. This is especially important in an economic downturn when customers are more careful with their spending.

Awards can also boost employee morale and motivation, creating a sense of pride and camaraderie among team members. This is especially important in tough economic times when employees may feel uncertain about job security.

They provide multiple benefits to businesses and their employees, making awards and accolades important to drive success and growth.

Q: How can award schemes impact companies’ overall business performance?

A: Last year, we ‘on boarded’ many new customers and fuelled our growth even in challenging times. In our industry, where customers are often located miles away, winning awards has a significant impact on their decision to choose a reliable partner.

By showcasing our achievements and recognition, we demonstrate credibility and commitment to excellence, which gives customers the confidence to trust and choose us as their partner.

When these awards are bestowed by reputable organisations, it reassures potential customers about the quality and reliability of the company’s offerings. This is especially significant in our industry where purchasing decisions are complex and technical. By winning awards, companies can simplify the decision-making process for potential customers.

“To have value, an award must be given by a credible awarding body and an evaluation panel that takes a comprehensive view of an entity’s performance

Q: And how should companies be recognised in a way that ensures transparency, impartiality, and relevance?

A: To have value, an award must be given by a credible awarding body and an evaluation panel that takes a comprehensive view of an entity’s performance. This includes measuring tangible results and considering the impact on all stakeholders in the long term.

Awards should not focus only on short-term success but rather, reflect an enterprise’s progress towards sustainability. Building a sustainable business is not a sprint – it’s a marathon.

In the highly competitive IT and software industry, it’s important for companies to gain recognition at the local, regional and global levels. To achieve this, specific measures should be put in place to ensure impartiality and accuracy in the recognition process.

Technical evaluation of products and services is essential to ensure quality and innovation, to be recognised in the IT and software industry. Emphasis on innovation should also be included in the recognition process to motivate businesses to push boundaries for growth and success.
