MASCONS
Q: How have Mascons’ products evolved to meet customer needs?
A: Mascons initiated operations in 1939 as a small building materials supplier to the Department of Buildings during the British colonial period. From humble beginnings, we steadily grew by buying and selling building materials in the local market, and then expanded to import and distribute materials from the UK and other countries.
We established our own factories in Sri Lanka to meet both national demands and customer needs. Our head office is located at 175 Sri Sumanatissa Mawatha in Colombo 12, and we have branches in Kurunegala, Ratmalana, Vavuniya, Jaffna, Manipay, Embilipitiya and Galle.
Today, we specialise in a wide range of high quality products including asbestos cement (AC) roofing sheets since 1955, barbed wire since 1963, and fibreglass roofing and sheets since 1985.
Additionally, Mascons launched cut flowers in 1997; stainless steel kitchen sinks in 2005; cement floor tiles in 2006; chain link fencing in 2008; wood composite doors and frames in 2012; and wood composite windows and window frames in 2013.
We have also manufactured wood composite decking floorboards since 2014; hollow blocks and paving tiles since 2017; ordinary Portland cement (OPC), and interior and exterior emulsion paint as of 2021; and from 2024, Morgan black tea and SealCore PVC pipes.
In addition to these manufactured products, since the inception we have imported and distributed a range of building materials, including tools, power tools, sanitary ware, scaffolding systems, construction machinery, locks and hinges, mesh products and Pegler products to meet client needs.
Q: What is your organisation’s approach to customer excellence?
