Q: What’s your assessment of the country’s economic landscape and its impact on your industry?

A: We are the authorised channel partner in Sri Lanka for Nord Drivesystems – which has its headquarters in Bargteheide, Germany, and subsidiary assembly plant in Pune, India. Nord is an industry leader in supplying a wide selection of geared motors, electric motors and drive electronics components in various sizes and versions.

Representing a European brand in Sri Lanka has its own challenges. Due to budgetary constraints, the typical end user in the country will always be wary of prices since there are many Chinese and Indian alternatives.

However, certain clients are eager to gain all the advantages that Nord Drivesystems has to offer – high quality, reliability, long service life, energy savings, company after sales support and more.

It’s a known fact that the local economic landscape is volatile but as an organisation, we’ve faced all challenges with a positive approach thanks to the unwavering trust of our clients.

Q: What’s your organisation’s brand philosophy for its Sri Lankan operations?

A: Rather than simply operating with a ‘supply and forget’ philosophy, we aim to be a true partner to our clientele, offering them more than other suppliers. Our clients trust us to provide quality machinery and components – trust that we have maintained over the years.

Any successful operation in Sri Lanka requires understanding clients and adapting to challenges. We employ a targeted approach for each brand, customising our offering accordingly.

Q: How has your organisation adapted to the local market over the years?

A: Magnum Technologies initially supplied the main cement manufacturing companies. We identified their requirements for quality, dependability and performance, and supplied machinery and components that exceeded expectations.

We’ve expanded our supplying capabilities by joining hands with leading manufacturers such as Nord Drivesystems and Timken (bearings) to expand our reach to other local industries as well.

We also restructured our vision and approach to be able to supply machinery and components ranging from the largest industrial gearboxes to the smallest bearing, thereby providing clients with a one stop shop concept where they can purchase all machinery and parts for their requirements.

Q: German brands are celebrated for their quality and excellence. How do these play out in your portfolio?

A: Being a German brand coming from a family owned company history, Nord Drivesystems is unmatched in product quality and reliability across its portfolio of geared motors, industrial gearboxes, electric motors and electronic drive technology, such as frequency converters and motor starters.

There are many client success stories with businesses using Nord products in their factories and witnessing identifiable benefits compared to other brands of gearmotors, gearboxes or motors.

Nord excels in the harshest of operating conditions – dusty environments and high or low ambient temperatures. The organisation consistently invests in technological advancements and this is reflected in all products. Nord products are capable of ensuring energy savings and have long operating lifetimes, bringing down overall costs.

All Nord product components are manufactured in Germany and assembled to German standards.
