Over 200 Navy personnel were infected by the COVID-19 in the Welisara Naval Complex which houses nearly 4,000 naval personnel. The Navy base was completely locked down following the identification of a large number of COVID-19 infected personnel. Close contacts of the infected personnel were also directed to PCR tests, on a priority list and those who tested positive for COVID-19 were sent to hospitals for treatment by the Navy. Some Naval officers who were on leave also contracted the infection.
