EMPOWERING SRI LANKA THROUGH GLOBAL EDUCATION

Lincoln Institute of Graduate Studies (LIGS) in Sri Lanka is the local branch campus of Lincoln University College Malaysia, named in honour of US President Abraham Lincoln.

As part of a global educational network, Lincoln University College operates more than 20 branch campuses worldwide – including in Nepal, Bangladesh, India, China, Australia and Sri Lanka – under a unified academic and quality assurance framework.

In Sri Lanka, LIGS functions as a fully accredited non-state degree awarding institute under the Ministry of Higher Education and is recognised by the University Grants Commission (UGC), offering qualifications that align with both national standards and international expectations.

LIGS offers a diverse range of disciplines including allied and applied sciences, engineering, computer sciences, social sciences and management. Its academic offerings span from foundation programmes to doctoral studies, serving both school leavers and working professionals.

A special focus is on allied health sciences with highly sought after programmes in nursing, pharmacy, biomedical sciences and public health. These programmes are designed specifically to support professionals seeking to upgrade their qualifications or pursuing career advancement in the health sector.

Delivered exclusively by the branch campus, these offerings maintain international standards and academic rigour.

Over the past decade, LIGS has produced more than 5,000 graduates in Sri Lanka, joining a broader global alumni network of over 200,000. These alumni are now making meaningful contributions in healthcare, academia, public service and private industries, both locally and internationally.

LIGS distinguishes itself through four foundational pillars: global recognition, affordability, academic excellence and a student centred approach.

Lincoln University College Malaysia has earned a place among the Top 500 in the QS Asia University Rankings and is listed in the Times Higher Education Impact Rankings, reflecting its strong commitment to quality education and alignment with the UN’s Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).

One of the most significant advantages for Sri Lankan students is access to globally recognised degrees at affordable tuition rates. While many institutions raise tuition alongside rankings, LIGS remains committed to affordability and inclusivity especially for middle and lower middle income learners.

Its programmes are among the most cost-effective in the country across both private and governmental higher education institutions.

Rather than focussing on extravagant infrastructure, LIGS places emphasis on faculty excellence and essential academic resources such as digital libraries, modern laboratories and research platforms.

Research achievements are highlighted annually during the Lincoln International Multidisciplinary Conference organised in collaboration with national universities, fostering productive partnerships between state and non-state academic sectors.

Considering that many students are employed professionals – such as government teachers, nurses, pharmacists, laboratory technologists and public health inspectors – LIGS provides flexible learning schedules and customised payment plans.

Its academic and administrative teams offer continuous support, ensuring students can balance their educational aspirations with work and family commitments.

LIGS also promotes social entrepreneurship and ethical leadership, contributing to education based economic upliftment in Sri Lanka. The institution actively participates in outreach and skill development initiatives that benefit underserved communities.

The growth and success of the Sri Lankan chapter are due in no small part to the unwavering leadership and mentorship of President of Lincoln University College Malaysia Dr. Amiya Bhaumik. His vision and commitment have been instrumental in shaping LIGS as a model for affordable, high quality international education.

At LIGS, education is not merely about earning a degree – it’s about empowering individuals, transforming communities, and shaping a better future for Sri Lanka and beyond.
