Just In Time Group Brings Comfort and Joy to Young Cancer Patients at Suwa Arana

This year, Just In Time Group expanded its ongoing commitment to Suwa Arana, Sri Lanka’s first pediatric palliative care center, with initiatives aimed at supporting and uplifting young cancer patients and their families. Suwa Arana, operated by the Indira Cancer Trust, provides specialized care for children facing cancer. The center’s holistic approach caters to the wellbeing of the mind and body offering concentrated support physically, psychologically and socially for both children and their families, offering a compassionate environment where these young patients can experience comfort during challenging times. In a significant gesture, Just In Time Group sponsored two days of operational costs at Suwa Arana, covering the daily needs of 32 children and their families. This sponsorship ensured essential provisions, including nutritious meals, utilities, personnel, and other vital resources, providing these families with a supportive environment during immensely challenging times.

To make these two days even more memorable, Just In Time Group arranged special entertainment for each sponsored day, thoughtfully bringing joy to the children and their families. On the first day, a professional magician visited Suwa Arana, enchanting the young patients and their parents with delightful magic tricks, creating an atmosphere of wonder and laughter. The joy and amazement that filled the room offered a much-needed escape and a sense of excitement for everyone involved.

On the second day, an acoustic band was brought in, hosting an engaging sing-along session that filled the center with familiar tunes. This musical gathering allowed families to sing along, share in the warmth of the moment, and enjoy a comforting sense of community and connection. These two days of thoughtful, uplifting experiences provided the children and their families with treasured memories, brightening their spirits and offering them moments of true respite amid their ongoing challenges.

This year’s efforts are part of Just In Time Group’s longstanding dedication to Suwa Arana and pediatric care in Sri Lanka. Previously, the company funded the construction of a dedicated room at Suwa Arana, providing crucial accommodation space for families traveling from afar to be with their children. Additionally, Just In Time Group created a Reading Room Corner within Suwa Arana, filled with books, toys, and board games generously donated by employees. This space offers children and their families a chance to unwind, bond, and engage in activities that bring a sense of normalcy, joy, and relaxation. Parents especially value the calm it brings during otherwise stressful days, making it a cherished space within the facility.

This Reading Room Corner at Suwa Arana reflects Just In Time Group’s broader commitment to supporting young lives across Sri Lanka. In 2016, on its 20th anniversary, the company inaugurated 20 Reading Room Corners in children’s homes and underprivileged schools throughout the country, fostering joy and learning for children in need.

Neranjan Dissanayake, CEO of Just In Time Group, shared his thoughts on the partnership, saying, “It is an honor to support these resilient young patients and their families. We hope our involvement brings moments of comfort, joy, and care to those who need it most. It’s our goal to make a meaningful impact and help these families feel supported.”

Deminda Dilan from Just In Time Group’s CSR team also expressed their dedication, adding, “Our work with Suwa Arana has been a deeply rewarding journey. Seeing the smiles on the children’s faces and the relief in their parents’ eyes reaffirms our belief in the importance of compassion and community support. We are grateful for the chance to make even a small difference.”

Through these compassionate endeavors, Just In Time Group reaffirms its commitment to bringing light and hope to young hearts in need, demonstrating the power of corporate responsibility in uplifting communities
