Q: What factors contributed to the use of GoodWe solar inverters for over 12 years in Sri Lanka?

A: We entered the Sri Lankan market as the solar sector kicked off with the net metering scheme. Establishing strong partnerships with local solar businesses has been crucial in building trust in the GoodWe brand.

Over the past 12 years, we have consistently received positive feedback from our customers in Sri Lanka regarding our product quality and after sales service. This commitment to customer satisfaction has helped us to maintain a strong presence in the market.

GoodWe’s positive operating performance and solid potential over this period also earned us the highest Altman Z-Score among PV manufacturers in BloombergNEF’s 2021 report, making GoodWe ‘The Most Financially Stable Inverter Company.’

This is significant as solar systems are a long-term investment. Sri Lankan customers sign agreements with the Ceylon Electricity Board (CEB) or Lanka Electricity Company (LECO) for 20 years and expect their systems to last as long. However, our stability allows us to support our customers for decades.

Q: In what ways does your team ensure service excellence and customer satisfaction?

A: Rigorous testing and quality control measures ensure that our inverters are reliable and durable, which is critical for our customers’ trust and satisfaction. We have also operationalised our own after sales service warehouse in Kerawalapitiya to enhance our service.

Our local senior service engineer, in collaboration with our partners, helps customers quickly identify and resolve any issues in any of the 15,000 homes and businesses using GoodWe inverters. We also transport replacement inverters to any part of the country at our own cost to minimise our customers’ operational expenses and ensure minimal solar system downtime.

Q: How does your product range cater to diverse energy needs in Sri Lanka?

A: We offer the widest product portfolio in the market, ranging from 0.7 kW to 350 kW utility inverters. As a leading manufacturer of lithium-ion battery energy storage, we provide solutions for both small residential and large utility scale needs.

We also manufacture containerised medium voltage stations that can be customised according to Sri Lankan grid requirements for large solar power plants. All the products in our portfolio help us drive the world’s smart energy future.

Q: What innovative features distinguish your products from competitors?

A: Local customers are keen to use the latest and best technology for their solar systems. Solar panels have increased their power output from 300W several years ago to over 600W. GoodWe inverters are built to support the high current output from these panels, ensuring our customers are not limited technically.

Our inverters are designed to perform well in various environmental conditions, which is essential in Sri Lanka. They offer innovative features such as potential induced degradation (PID) recovery and anti-PID, to prevent and repair the degradation of solar panels. Low startup voltage ensures that the inverter starts production earlier in the morning and stops later in the evening, ensuring higher energy yield every day.

Q: How has GoodWe’s global presence influenced its operations and product offerings?

A: As of June last year, we have an accumulative installation of 80 GW in more than 100 countries. GoodWe is the only inverter brand that has won the TÜV Rheinland All Quality Award for seven consecutive years – from 2015 to 2021.

Our products for residential, commercial and industrial sectors are proven to be reliable, and have a long lifespan, which is a key reason for Sri Lankan customers to choose GoodWe inverters for large megawatt scale projects.

Q: How does GoodWe integrate environmental, social and corporate governance (ESG) principles into operations?

A: GoodWe joined the UN Global Compact, and we are dedicated to fulfilling our corporate social responsibility and practising the concept of sustainability. The GoodWe Solar Academy was established as a pioneering open platform for knowledge sharing and communication regarding the PV sector, and its products and applications – aiming to explore more possibilities within and beyond the sector.

ESG is not simply a trend for us – it is our core strategy. The GoodWe inverters that come to Sri Lanka are manufactured at our factory, which has been certified as the ‘first practice-based education base of zero carbon buildings.’ Our factory integrates solar, energy storage, PV building materials and electric vehicle (EV) charging.

However, achieving certification as a zero carbon industrial park involves more than merely these elements. It requires addressing renewable energy ratios, diversity of renewable sources, water usage, biodiversity and other challenges.

GoodWe was chosen by the Chinese government to build the world’s first zero carbon emissions industrial park by 2027. This means that not only will our products fight climate change and reduce carbon emissions – the entire infrastructure and product life cycle will be free of carbon emissions.
