The Pinnacle of Awards
The inaugural edition of the Most Awarded ranks the nation’s most revered corporations
The foremost corporate entities in this country are regularly recognised for their outstanding achievements both at home and abroad, bringing immense pride to the business community and nation as a whole.
It follows that this special edition – the first of its kind – pays homage to the ‘Most Awarded’ companies in our land by tallying the cumulative awards of business establishments between January 2019 and September 2020.
In this inaugural edition of the rankings, Commercial Bank of Ceylon (ComBank) emerges as the Most Awarded entity in Sri Lanka by garnering the most number of awards (80) during the period under review.
National Development Bank is next in line with 41 awards to its name, followed by Hatton National Bank (34) and Talawakelle Tea Estates (31), while People’s Leasing & Finance (PLC) – with a tally of 26 awards – rounds off the top five of the Most Awarded entities.
Sampath Bank comes in at No. 6 in the rankings by winning 25 awards in the period under review while John Keells Holdings (JKH) and Diesel & Motor Engineering trail closely behind – in sixth and seventh position with 23 and 21 awards respectively.
Aitken Spence (19 awards) and Aitken Spence Hotel Holdings (18) round off the top 10 in the Most Awarded listing for 2019/20.
The 10 most awarded businesses include two of the largest diversified corporates, four private sector commercial banks, and one representative each from the finance and leasing sector, hospitality trade, motor industry and plantations industry.
As for the Most Awarded rankings in toto, the largest number of entities (29) hail from the diversified sector, followed by banking (21), finance and leasing (18), and food and beverage (20). Meanwhile, the manufacturing, insurance, hospitality and motor segments also claim a Most Awarded entities count that runs into the double digits.
In the diversified sector, JKH emerges as the highest ranking entity while ComBank is recognised as the most awarded corporate from the banking sector. And whereas PLC reigns supreme in the finance and leasing sector, Lion Brewery Ceylon is the most awarded food and beverage entity in the rankings.
The 10 Most Awarded companies are listed entities – and in fact, as many as 125 of the organisations that make up the complete rankings are quoted companies along with 55 private businesses, 16 multinational corporations and eight state entities.
