CORPORATE PROFILE

GLOBAL OVERVIEW Estab-lished in 1907 in Seattle, Washington, United Parcel Ser-vice (UPS) has evolved into one of the most recognised and trusted names in logistics and package delivery worldwide. Ini-tially launched as a small messenger service, UPS has expanded over the decades to become a global powerhouse in transportation, supply chain manage-ment and e-commerce solutions.

With operations spanning over 220 countries and terri-tories, UPS manages the delivery of more than 22 million packages and documents daily, catering to approximately 11.7 million customers. Its highly synchronised global net-work comprises 534 aircraft, around 2,000 daily flight segments and more than 1,800 operating facilities, which enable seamless integration across various geographies and time zones.

The company employs a workforce of over 500,000 people worldwide, including delivery personnel, pilots, warehouse ope-rators, IT specialists and customer service teams. Drawing on its extensive global infrastructure and state-of-the-art tech-nology platforms, UPS ensures high standards of reliability, visibility and delivery speed.

OPERATIONS IN SRI LANKA For over 30 years, UPS has had a notable presence in Sri Lanka, serving both the business community and individual customers. Its operations have been officially managed by Fits Express, which was appointed as the Authorised Service Contractor (ASC) in 2016.

Headquartered in Colombo 3, the Sri Lankan branch of UPS operates with a lean yet highly agile workforce of over 250 employees, offering expertise in air and ocean freight, ware-house logistics, customer service and customs clearance.

The logistics infrastructure of Fits Express (UPS’s ASC) is designed for nationwide service coverage with the capability to deliver to every postal code across the island.

The operation is powered by a fleet of 26 delivery vehicles and supported by five strategically located operational facilities in Colombo and other key regional areas. These hubs allow UPS to efficiently manage last mile delivery and pick up services while minimising delivery times and improving cus-tomer satisfaction.

Furthermore, Fits Express benefits from a robust multimodal logistics network that incorporates both air and ground trans-port systems. The company maintains direct line haul connec-tions to major international logistics hubs in Dubai, Singapore, the Maldives and Australia, which greatly boosts the speed and reliability of international shipping.

One of its key strengths is the presence of in-house airside operations and an integrated gateway customs clearance facility at the airport. This enables UPS to offer faster processing of inbound and outbound shipments, which is especially critical for time sensitive consignments such as pharmaceuticals, high value electronics, industrial equipment and fast-moving e-com-merce parcels.

Additionally, Fits Express supports businesses through air and sea freight forwarding, third party logistics (3PL), contract warehousing and distribution solutions. These services are cru-cial for companies involved in international trade, particularly exporters and importers seeking a dependable logistics partner.

E-PARCEL.LK Recognising the booming demand for cross border online shopping, Fits Express has developed a specialised e-commerce logistics service through its E-parcel.lk platform.

This service enables Sri Lankan consumers and small busi-nesses to purchase products from key global markets – such as the US, UK, China, India, Singapore, the UAE, Malaysia, Canada, the Maldives and Australia – and have them delivered efficiently and affordably.

Customers using E-parcel benefit from end-to-end shipment tracking, transparent customs handling, affordable internatio-nal shipping rates and delivery times of under two weeks for most regions.

This service has proven particularly popular among SMEs and home based businesses, which use it to import goods such as electronics, fashion items, health products and specialised equipment. With the growing trend in cross border e-commerce, UPS’s support through E-parcel.lk is helping local entrepreneurs connect with international suppliers and expand their reach beyond domestic borders.

SUSTAINABILITY COMMITMENTS Fits Express is deeply committed to environmental sustainability, both globally and within Sri Lanka. Worldwide, the company has driven over four billion miles using alternative fuels and purchased more than 177 million gallons in 2024 alone. Its fleet now includes over 19,000 advanced technology and alternative fuel vehicles, supporting global carbon reduction goals.

In Sri Lanka, these sustainability values are reflected through optimised delivery routes to reduce carbon emissions, fuel efficient fleet management and green awareness training for all operational staff. By aligning with the parent company’s long-term goal of carbon neutrality, UPS Sri Lanka is contributing to both environmental protection and sustainable economic growth.

PEOPLE, CULTURE AND TALENT DEVELOPMENT Fits Express has earned a reputation as an employer of choice, having been recognised among the top 50 greatest places to work in Sri Lanka. The company places strong emphasis on employee development programmes, diversity and inclusion initiatives, and safe and positive working environments.

With roles ranging from pricing analysts and warehouse coordinators to air freight specialists and customer service executives, Fits Express continues to invest in local talent acquisition and professional growth. This focus on people ensures that UPS not only delivers parcels but also cultivates leadership, innovation and collaboration within the Sri Lankan logistics sector.
