Q: Fairway Holdings has been a trusted name in luxury living and sustainable real estate… how is the company evolving under its new generation of leadership?

A: Fairway Holdings has long been synonymous with quality construction, sustainable development and luxury living in the country’s real estate sector. Today, under a new generation of leadership we’re entering an exciting chapter focussed on building a strong, future oriented group – one that remains rooted in our legacy while expanding across all sectors in which we operate.

Inspired by the visionary leadership of our late Founder Chairman Hemaka de Alwis and guided by our Chairman Virath de Alwis now, we are strengthening each of our core business verticals – real estate, leisure, interior solutions, legal services and lifestyle – through thoughtful innovation, operational excellence and sustainable value creation.

Q: What strategic direction is the organisation taking to ensure balanced growth across its diverse sectors?

A: We have developed a strategic blueprint to ensure that each sector within the group not only complements the others but also grows steadily on its own merit. Real estate and construction continue to be our anchor with ongoing investments in high-rise luxury living and integrated property services.

At the same time we are expanding our footprint in tourism, hospitality, interior solutions and legal services – all of which reflect our vision to offer complete lifestyle solutions. Our focus is on creating synergy between sectors while maintaining the independence and strength of each vertical. This integrated yet scalable approach allows us to deliver meaningful, long-term growth for our customers, partners and the country’s economy.

Q: Real estate remains a core pillar of Fairway Holdings… what are some highlights and future plans in this sector?

A: Over the past two decades, Fairway Properties has delivered over 1,000 luxury apartments across six landmark skyscrapers, each exemplifying our commitment to engineering excellence, eco-consciousness and sustainability. Our projects are built to the highest standards of sustainability and energy efficiency, setting benchmarks in the residential landscape.

Our latest residential project, Fairway Latitude located in Colombo 5, features 176 ultra-luxury apartments and a wide range of amenities offering unmatched access to top tier schools, hospitals, shopping and dining. Its tagline, Live Where Life Happens, truly encapsulates the urban lifestyle it offers.

And our vertical integration strengthens our property portfolio from construction (Fairway Development) and consultancy (Chatham Construction & Consultancy) to post-handover operations (Building Management Services) and brokerage (Realtor Lanka Properties). We also operate a boutique law firm led by Sundari de Alwis that specialises in real estate legal services, extending the legacy of our late chairman.

Q: Beyond real estate, how is the organisation bringing its lifestyle vision to life through its other business units?

A: Our commitment to luxury living extends beyond construction to holistic lifestyle offerings. Centrepoint Homes, our interior solutions company, delivers customisable, eco-friendly interiors – from kitchens and flooring to windows and doors – using sustainable materials such as engineered timber, solid surfaces and unplasticised polyvinyl chloride (uPVC).

We also operate niche businesses such as Aquascape and Lanka Aroids, which bring nature into homes through aquaculture and horticulture. These offerings support our vision of quality and eco-conscious living in every detail.

On the leisure front, Fairway Colombo – our flagship smart business hotel – has redefined urban hospitality. With 181 tech enabled rooms and year-round cultural events, it offers a vibrant experience. Robotics enhanced room service and digital enhancements reflect our innovation led service delivery.

Additionally, Fairway Travels – our destination management company – curates immersive local experiences while projects including Lakeside Cottages in Nuwara Eliya, and Caravan Parks in Bambara Kanda and Nuwara Eliya, offer unique travel concepts in Sri Lanka.

We believe the leisure sector holds significant potential for growth and Fairway is committed to developing a distinctive portfolio of tourism assets in key destinations across Sri Lanka.

Q: What roles do leadership and people play in driving the future of Fairway Holdings?

A: At the heart of our progress is a young, agile and purpose driven leadership team. As Group CEO, I am proud to work alongside professionals who bring fresh thinking, dedication and resilience to everything we do. With the unwavering support of Chairman Virath de Alwis, we are building a company that honours our legacy, responds to the present and prepares for the future.

Fairway is not merely a company – it’s a living legacy built on resilience, innovation and purpose. As we chart our path forward, our unwavering focus is on delivering value to our residents, communities and the economy. Our commitment is to build responsibly, lead boldly and contribute meaningfully.

The future of Fairway Holdings is not only about growing our businesses. It’s about redefining quality, sustainability and experience in every space we touch, and contributing meaningfully to Sri Lanka’s economic and social transformation.
