DIMO Celebrated IWD Meaningfully, Reflecting the Progress Made During a Decade in Creating a Respectful Workplace

DIMO celebrated International Women’s Day (IWD) with impactful initiatives to foster a gender-smart work culture. The event featured the progress made by DIMO during the last 10 years, a panel discussion with industry leaders discussing the importance of creating inclusive workplaces while empowering women through education and awareness, and also a fashion show by DIMO female staff enhancing confidence.

The panel included notable figures such as Justice Shirani Thilakawardane, Mr. Sarath Ganegoda, Ms. Vrai Reymond, Dr. Sulochana Segera, and Ms. Kshanika Ratnayaka. They emphasized the necessity of changing workplace attitudes to promote women’s empowerment and the strategic advantage of creating respectful environments.

DIMO’s Executive Director and Chief Human Resources Officer, Dilrukshi Kurukulasuriya, highlighted the importance of creating respectful and safe workplaces for women, stating that it is not just a moral imperative but also a strategic advantage for DIMO. She mentioned that this initiative is a crucial component of their sustainability plan, which aims to have 40% of women in decision-making roles by 2030. She emphasized that empowering women through education and awareness is the best way to break down barriers and create an inclusive workplace culture that promotes long-term success.

Dilrukshi also discussed the multifaceted efforts to change perceptions and empower women at DIMO. These efforts include creating awareness, training managers on unconscious bias, and implementing women-friendly policies. She mentioned that DIMO’s independent harassment reporting line has given confidence to employees to report workplace harassment without fear of retaliation.

The event also celebrated the achievements of female employees who completed the ‘Powerfully You’ leadership program. This program is designed to equip women in junior and middle management with the confidence, resilience, and agility needed for career advancement.

The celebration concluded with the ‘Walk of Confidence’ fashion show, where DIMO’s female employees took centre stage, embodying strength, elegance, and the diverse journeys of women across different phases of life. This initiative was designed to boost self-confidence and encourage women to embrace their individuality and step forward with pride.
