GLOBAL RUBBER INDUSTRIES

Q: What is Global Rubber Industries’ (GRI) stance on companies practising green initiatives?
A: GRI manufactures high-grade speciality tyres that are produced sustainably using pure natural rubber at our advanced production plants in Sri Lanka for the global agriculture, construction and material handling sectors.

Our vision is to move humanity towards making a positive impact on the planet.

We believe that farmers nourishing the world, construction workers building for the next generation and forklift operators moving materials are noble, and deserve praise for their contributions to society.

Q: And what strategies does the company employ to stay ahead in terms of ‘going green’?
A: Focussing our innovation on developing environmentally-friendly products, novel tread designs and advanced compounds that offer higher performance has enabled GRI to fulfil customers’ needs, delight consumers and stay ahead of competitors.

Having built a strong reputation in industrial material handling solid tyres since 2002, the company has expanded its scope to encompass advanced agricultural and construction tyres.

A new factory equipped with cutting-edge technologies and a roof covered with solar panels was established in 2018. Our commitment to sustainability and environmental protection is displayed in the way GRI develops new products, generates power, recycles waste and preserves water.

We are focussed on doing the right things for our planet and doing things right while striving for significance in the pursuit of success. Environmentally sustainable growth will eternally remain our strategic goal.

Q: How does GRI’s operations impact the global ecosystem?
A: In an industry where demand is disproportionate, identifying sustainable approaches to sourcing rubber is ideal.

GRI sources pure natural rubber from local farmers and plantations to manufacture high-grade agricultural tyres. This creates an interesting value chain that begins and ends from one farmer to another.

Our Green X Circle initiative creates a global farmer ecosystem that connects natural rubber and crop farmers. It fosters connectivity and collaboration while emphasising sustainability principles.

We understand the true value of rubber and crop farmers. It is in GRI’s nature to ensure that our agricultural tyres minimise soil compaction and help produce greater yields. GRI’s mission is to inspire greatness in farmers and other users of our products.

In January, GRI laid the foundation for the second phase of a project – construction of a new manufacturing facility in Badalgama – valued at US$ 100 million. The company’s mandate to embed sustainability in its operations is reiterated in this facility.

Through this initiative, we intend to quadruple our present production capacity to 750,000 tyres a year with a total capacity of 100 tons a day. The facility will focus on agricultural tyres with an emphasis on advanced radial tyres under the GREEN XLR brand.
