MANOHARI ABEYESEKERA ELECTED TO THE CIMA GLOBAL COUNCIL

Manohari Abeyesekera, currently a Director /Chairperson Audit Committee of Sri Lanka’s premier savings bank, National Savings Bank (NSB), has elected by the CIMA Members to represent South Asia in the Chartered Institute of Management Accountants (CIMA- UK) Global Council for a three-year term with effect from June 2021.

Manohari has served CIMA over a decade in various leadership roles. She served a CIMA Sri Lanka Board Member for two terms from 2012 to 2014 and from 2015 to 2017, and in the CIMA MESANA Board in 2017. She was the Chairperson of CIMA Sri Lanka Country Network Panel 2019, in CIMA’s Centenary Year. She currently serves as a Member of the CIMA Global Member Engagement Committee 2020/2021. A  Prize-winner at CIMA Finals, she won the CIMA Janashakthi Pinnacle Awards as CIMA Young Star (Silver) Award in 2004.

Manohari read for her B.Sc. (Biological Sciences) from the University of Colombo in 1998 with a First-Class Honours. She also read for the master’s in business administration (MBA) in the year 2005 winning three gold medals from the University of Colombo.

Manohari served as the President MBA Alumni Association University of Colombo in the year 2019/2020.

Previously, she was at Hayleys Group spanning an 18-year career as the Head- Strategic Business Development, Director Hayleys Group Services and Director Fentons Limited up to October 2020.

An Alumna of KPMG, Manohari is a Fellow Member of CIMA and Institute of Chartered Accountants of Sri Lanka.  Manohari had her primary education at Sujatha Vidyalaya Colombo, and her Secondary Education at St. Paul’s Girl’s School, Milagiriya.

In 2019, Manohari was selected for the US State Department Fortune Mentoring Program. She is an Alumna of the USA International Visitor Leadership Program. She received a scholarship from AOTS Japan and had Executive education in Europe & Asia.

Manohari has received awards for Women Leadership in Sri Lanka, India & Bangladesh.

Manohari is a Toastmaster and a journalist to Daily FT, CIMA Edge etc. She was featured in CIMA Insight “Breaking the glass ceiling in Sri Lanka”.
