CERTIS LANKA
Q: Can you share some best practices employed by Certis Lanka to tackle the challenges brought about by the economic crisis?
A: Our industry, like many others, encountered tough obstacles over the past year. However, it is during these difficult times that true leadership and character are revealed. We’re immensely proud that our organisation rose to the occasion and survived amidst harsh conditions.
Moreover, our commitment to corporate social responsibility remained unwavering as we engaged in numerous charitable initiatives such as providing schoolbooks to all staff members’ children, providing scholarships to students who have performed well and organising a group-wide carnival.
We were also able to assist communities by providing much needed rations. By doing so, we demonstrated that our success is not only measured by financial gains but also the positive impact we make on society through best practices.
Q: In what new ways can a positive work culture be fostered?
A: The group’s well thought out human resource governance framework, consisting of resilient HR, grievance and ethics policies, ensures that employees are treated with care and kindness.
This framework is centred on attracting, stimulating, developing and retaining the company’s human capital. The brand that is built on a principle of ‘no compromise’ to service quality and purpose extends the same code to its workforce, whose talents and capabilities are constantly enhanced through various programmes.
The governance policies focus on capitalising on and augmenting employee interest based on stakeholder and organisational goals.
Additionally, the board, Remuneration Committee and heads of departments constantly review and update the policy framework and the way forward with said policies.
Our comprehensive HR policy framework is designed to comply with local and international regulations and standards, and industry best practices.
Q: What management approach has Certis Lanka adopted to enable it to obtain Great Place to Work certification?
A: The management of Certis Lanka is proud and privileged that all five of its companies – namely, Certis Lanka Security Solutions, Home Nursing & Swift Care, Secure Logistics, Technology & Consultancy and Courier Services – were recognised among Sri Lanka’s ‘Best Workplaces’ for the year 2023. This is the sixth consecutive year that Certis Lanka Security Solutions was recognised as a great place to work.
Certis Lanka is a joint venture with Certis International of Singapore, a wholly owned company of Temasek Holdings, Singapore. Incorporated in 1977, the Certis Lanka Group of Companies is a market driven group, and a premier service provider of loss prevention, secure logistics and care services in Sri Lanka.
Dedication, integrity, loyalty, motivation, authenticity and humaneness are values that build the brand, and are upheld by the 9,000-plus strong human capital of Certis Lanka.
The group prioritises the health and wellbeing of Certis family members. Personal and career aspirations are met by adopting a holistic employee value proposition.
In addition to the pandemic, the year under review also witnessed a national economic crisis, pushing the group to adapt to multiple challenges that faced its employees. Steps were taken to encourage mindful and sustainable lifestyles to ensure employee wellbeing.
This resulted in employees placing their confidence in management initiatives and actions, and thriving in our work culture, paving the way for the group to be a ‘great place to work’ for yet another year.
