BCAS SCHOOL OF LAW
Q: In your view, what makes BCAS stand out from other higher education institutes?
A: British College of Applied Studies (BCAS) is a unique institution that focusses on offering students a combination of distinctive character and academic vision to pursue a career of their choice either in Sri Lanka or abroad.
Credibility and a successful academic track record are crucial when selecting a suitable private higher educational institute. Since 1999, many students have chosen to further their higher education with internationally recognised degrees offered by selected UK universities in IT, management, health science, engineering and law, among a wide range of programmes offered by the institute.
A highly ranked private tertiary education institution in Sri Lanka with over 22 years’ experience, BCAS offers over 30 academic and vocational courses in major streams, from software engineering to management and biomedical science at Foundation, BTEC HND, Undergraduate, Top-Up and Master’s Levels.
Q: How would you describe the value addition of BCAS Law School’s latest international affiliation?
A: BCAS is a market leader in the private education sector in the field of law with excellent student performance in subsequent Law College examinations in Sri Lanka.
Oxford Brookes University’s (OBU) School of Law in the United Kingdom counts a credible history of successful partnerships with overseas institutions. Both BCAS and OBU have a strong focus on employability and outstanding student experience. And they are keen to maintain a relevant and current law programme, to meet the needs of students and the legal profession in Sri Lanka.
Q: Could you describe the prestigious LLB (Hons) degree programme?
A: It has a number of distinctive features and aims to provide the highest levels of student experience while ensuring that those who graduate from the programme are able to do so with a degree incorporating the seven foundations of legal knowledge modules – as specified by the Bar Standards Board of England and Wales – which exempts them from the academic stage of training, should they decide to pursue careers as barristers in England and Wales.
This programme provides students with knowledge and an understanding of the common law of England and Wales, enabling students to develop a range of personal and professional skills; and it has a strong academic and vocational emphasis.
BCAS is committed to delivering a strong academic programme with a special emphasis on graduate attributes such as academic, research, digital and information literacy, and active citizenship.
Q: How would you describe career prospects upon completion of the degree?
A: Adhering to requirements stipulated by Sri Lanka Law College, this degree meets its admission requirements to the attorney at law professional qualification.
The degree will also provide students with the foundational academic legal knowledge that helps their entry into other associated careers such as Legal Associate, Senior Legal Executive, Apprentice/Junior Lawyer and Executive Assistant, to Legal Director and more.
It goes without saying that acquiring a quality UK recognised degree will position graduates to enter the market for legal support services in Sri Lanka’s new Port City, which is also known as the Colombo International Financial Centre (CIFC).
