ATELIER KANDY HOSTS ART EXHIBITION ‘CRISIS & STRUGGLE’
The art exhibition by Sujith Rathnayake, titled Crisis & Struggle, will be showcased at Atelier Kandy at Siebel Place Circular Road, Peradeniya Road, Kandy. The exhibition will be open till 2nd of June 2023.
Sujith Rathnayake has been a force in the art realm fearlessly addressing the discontent of the people and giving a voice to the unheard as well as creating a language for the voiceless. Using a limited number of artworks consisting of paintings, assemblage, installation, and mixed media works, Sujith delves into the influence that crisis & struggles have on artistic movements, highlighting the role that art plays to show dissent or frustration through narrative scenes or propagandistic artworks.
Sujith Rathnayake has held 11 solo exhibitions and participated in many national and international group exhibitions, workshops, camps, triennial and biennial art festivals. In 2000, Sujith was selected for the first resident art program at the Fukuoka Asian Art Museum in Japan where one of his artworks titled ‘Wounds for Sale’ has been added to the permanent art collection of the Museum.
Atelier Kandy is a thematic Gallery Hotel that began in 2017 mainly to assist artists of Kandy. The gallery has since then organized many arts related events such as Exhibitions, poetry readings, book readings, Sculptural workshops & exhibitions, talks by eminent artists & historians etc. which have been immensely popular with the art loving people of Kandy.
