“Elevate Sri Lanka: AmCham SL CEO Forum 2025” Inspires Business Leaders Towards Growth and Innovation
Colombo, Sri Lanka – January 15, 2025: The American Chamber of Commerce in Sri Lanka (AmCham SL), powered by FedEx, successfully concluded the much-anticipated “Elevate Sri Lanka: CEO Forum 2025” at the Cumulus Ballroom, Cinnamon Life Colombo. The event brought together leading voices from Sri Lanka’s business community and global experts for a transformative morning of insights and discussions on strategies to strengthen Sri Lanka’s economic position in a dynamic global landscape.
The forum featured three dynamic panel discussions covering geopolitics, digital innovation, access to finance, and private-sector opportunities.
In her keynote address as Chief Guest, U.S. Ambassador to Sri Lanka Julie Chung emphasized the significance of the U.S. as Sri Lanka’s largest export market and the role of American businesses in strengthening bilateral ties. “Participating in the Elevate Sri Lanka CEO Forum reflects the United States’ commitment to our economic partnership. The U.S. remains focused on fostering an environment of good governance and anti-corruption measures, which are vital for creating a thriving, business-friendly atmosphere in Sri Lanka. U.S. initiatives are vital in connecting Sri Lanka to the global community, with AmCham and U.S. businesses playing a pivotal role in driving growth, spurring innovation, and creating shared opportunities that benefit both nations.”
The event featured distinguished panelists who engaged in in-depth discussions:
1.Leveraging Geopolitical Shifts for Strategic Advantage in Trade and Investment:
This session provided insights into navigating global trade dynamics and upcoming agreements, with contributions from Chandani Ekanayake (AmSafe Bridport), Ravinatha Aryasinha (Lakshman Kadirgamar Institute), Sulaiman Nishtar (Ernst & Young), Yohan Lawrence (Joint Apparel Association Forum), and Zachary Bailey (U.S. Embassy in Sri Lanka). The panel was moderated by Chamila Bandara (Hayleys Advantis Limited).
2.The Need for Acceleration of the Digital Economy and Expanding Access to Finance:
Speakers Dhananath Fernando (Advocata Institute), Harsha Randeny (Microsoft), Kavinda De Zoysa (Bank of Ceylon), and Andrew Shinn (U.S. Department of State U.S. Embassy in Sri Lanka) discussed the potential of Sri Lanka’s digital economy and collaborative financing models, with moderation by Sandun Hapugoda (Mastercard).
3.Opportunities for the Private Sector:
The final session highlighted key programs and grants available through USAID, the Asian Development Bank, and the Select USA Program. Esteemed speakers included Christopher Powers (U.S. Embassy in Sri Lanka/USAID), Joe Yang (U.S. Consulate General in Mumbai), and Lilia Aleksanyan (Asian Development Bank), with moderation by Tamani Dias (Standard Chartered Bank).
