Acorn Group which encompasses a multitude of leading international brands in the Aviation and Travel industry takes pride in the leading role played by its female employees across its businesses. There is no better occasion than International Women’s Day to highlight how women make an impactful contribution to the businesses of Acorn. Women make up close to 44% of the Group’s workforce and have been an integral part of the organization.

Malinga Arsakularatne, CEO of Acorn Group said: “The Acorn family is committed to providing equal opportunities at the workplace, across all businesses of the organization. The past year is a testimony to the immense contribution made by the women in the Group as we faced many challenges due to the ongoing global pandemic. We take pride in the accomplishments and achievements of our female colleagues, and applaud their significant contribution to the growth and success of the Group”

Creating a work environment which is conducive to women requires flexibility and workspace ethics which can be fine-tuned to cater to the demands of everyday life. Acorn Group takes pride in being one of the few organizations that not only affords an extended period of maternity leave but has made provision for paternity leave to ensure inclusivity across the board.

Commenting on the success of women in the Group, Dushy Jayaweera, Managing Director of Acorn Aviation, said “Our company has actively encouraged and groomed our female workforce on their career journey. The increasing numbers in leadership positions of females within our organization is a result of empowerment and training that has helped to pave the way”. She further stressed that “The global pandemic and the resultant ‘work from home’ has also added pressure to the women in the workforce. However, our female colleagues have taken this in their stride, with innovative ways of doing business also being manifested during the lock-down”

“Having a voice and being heard, irrespective of your title,” said Nathasha Ekanayake, Assistant Manager Marketing for Acorn Travels. “we are always encouraged to bring new ideas to the table and take the initiative to execute them with no gender bias. This motivates us to do better, everyday”

Diethelm Travel Sri Lanka’s Contracting Manager, Luna Recordati said “Being a woman in the travel trade you need to be resilient, flexible and passionate. It is not just a job, it’s a ‘Lifestyle’. Hence working with a dynamic company that recognizes you and focuses on an ethos of ‘work hard and play hard’ makes all the difference. I feel fortunate to be part of the Acorn Group”.

We wish that “the capability and confidence of our female colleagues to be a driving force in the business world”, will be an inspiration to many.
