Q: How can the Association of Chartered Certified Accountants (ACCA) adjust its training to prepare accountants to create, protect and report on sustainable value in today’s changing business world?

A: ACCA continually refines its training programmes to equip accountants with the skills necessary for navigating today’s dynamic business landscape. This includes integrating sustainability principles into our curriculum; fostering an understanding of environmental, social and governance (ESG) factors; and emphasising ethical responsibility in value creation and reporting.

ACCA has also embraced integrating emerging technologies into our curriculum and professional development initiatives, providing our members and students with the necessary tools and expertise to thrive in an AI-based economy.

Q: And how would you describe your organisation’s journey over the decades?

A: Over the span of 120 years, the Association of Chartered Certified Accountants has undergone a remarkable transformation, emerging as a global authority in the field of accounting.

Expanding its presence to over 181 countries, ACCA currently boasts over 252,000 members across the globe who come from diverse sectors, such as finance, business, government and academia.

Q: In your opinion, what is the role of organisations such as yours in reviving Sri Lanka’s economic and social landscape?

A: In our opinion, our role in revitalising Sri Lanka’s economic landscape is nurturing skilled accounting professionals and advocating ethical practices. Through strategic partnerships with professional bodies and universities, we enhance talent development and knowledge sharing in the field of accountancy.

ACCA’s overall goal is to cultivate a community of top finance professionals that the world needs now and in the future, equipped with the skills, knowledge and ethical values necessary to propel businesses towards success and sustainability.

Q: What is your outlook for Sri Lanka in the next five years?

A: Despite challenges, Sri Lanka’s potential for growth in the next five years is significant. With concerted efforts from the public and private sectors, we anticipate sustainable progress, improved infrastructure and increased investment opportunities. As Sri Lanka moves towards recovery, the demand for skilled accounting professionals has surged.
