DIMUTHU ETHUGALA WINS OUTSTANDING GLOBAL ACHIEVER AWARD AT CA SRI LANKA NATIONAL CONFERENCE

Sri Lankan Chartered Accountant and entrepreneur Dimuthu Ethugala has been named Outstanding Global Achiever of the Year 2026 by the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Sri Lanka (CA Sri Lanka), recognising his international professional achievements, entrepreneurial leadership and contribution to the accounting profession.

The award was presented on 8 October at the 47th National Conference of Chartered Accountants, held at Monarch Imperial, Sri Jayawardenepura Kotte.

For decades, Sri Lankan accounting professionals have built successful careers in international firms and overseas markets. Ethugala’s journey reflects another dimension of that success: moving beyond working for global organisations to establishing and growing an international professional services business.

Having established his professional foundations at BDO Sri Lanka and subsequently KPMG in Kuwait, Ethugala recognised an opportunity to move beyond conventional career progression.

In 2017, Ethugala joined fellow Chartered Accountants Sujeewa Appuhami and Jude Paththamperume to establish Crevaty, bringing together complementary strengths in strategy, corporate leadership and business development. Appuhami contributed strategic direction, Pattamperuma brought extensive corporate management experience and played a key role in establishing the Sri Lankan operation, while Ethugala focused on developing business opportunities and building the firm’s brand. Together, they set out to create an internationally competitive professional services business with strong Sri Lankan roots.

Nearly a decade later, that ambition has translated into an international business footprint spanning Kuwait, the UAE, Singapore, the United Kingdom and Canada, supported by Sri Lankan service delivery and talent development operations. What began with accounting, taxation and business advisory services has evolved into a broader professional services business serving clients across international markets.

Today, Crevaty employs approximately 45 full-time professionals and generates annual revenue of around LKR 500 million. Its growth demonstrates how Sri Lankan professional expertise can be leveraged not only to secure employment internationally, but also to establish businesses that compete across borders.

Reflecting on the recognition, Ethugala said, “More than an honour, it felt like a responsibility to give back to the profession and community that shaped me.”

His contribution extends beyond entrepreneurship. Between 2019 and 2023, Ethugala served the CA Sri Lanka Kuwait Chapter in several leadership capacities, including General Secretary, Vice President and President, helping strengthen professional networks, knowledge sharing and opportunities for Sri Lankan Chartered Accountants overseas.

A Fellow of CA Sri Lanka and CMA Sri Lanka, Ethugala has also remained committed to mentoring emerging professionals and encouraging young accountants to look beyond traditional career pathways.

He believes Sri Lankan professionals possess the technical capabilities to succeed internationally, but must complement their qualifications with communication skills, adaptability, integrity and the confidence to operate in diverse business environments.

Looking ahead, Ethugala intends to strengthen Crevaty’s international presence while creating further opportunities for Sri Lankan professionals to participate in global service delivery.

His recognition as CA Sri Lanka’s Outstanding Global Achiever of the Year 2026 highlights a broader opportunity for Sri Lanka: to move beyond being a source of skilled professionals for international markets and increasingly become a base from which globally competitive professional services businesses are built.
