DFCC BANK ATHLETES SHINE AT THE 41ST ANNUAL MERCANTILE ATHLETICS CHAMPIONSHIPS 2026
DFCC Bank’s Athletics Team delivered an impressive performance at the 41st Annual Mercantile Athletics Championships 2026, securing a total of 15 medals – five gold, two silver and eight bronze – across a range of track and field events.
The three-day championship, held from 21 to 23 August 2026 at the Mahinda Rajapaksa Stadium, brought together nearly 1,800 athletes representing 46 companies from Sri Lanka’s mercantile sector, providing a competitive platform for athletes to demonstrate their sporting talent and determination.
Among DFCC Bank’s standout performers was Chanidu Senash, who claimed two gold medals in the Novices Men’s category, winning both the 110m Hurdles and Triple Jump. He also secured fifth place in the Long Jump.
Ruwan Madushanka added two more gold medals to DFCC Bank’s tally in the Men’s 35+ category, taking first place in both the 400m and 1,500m Race Walk, while also securing bronze in the 400m Hurdles.
Continuing the Bank’s strong showing, Sahan Rodrigo won gold in the Men’s 40+ High Jump and secured bronze in Shot Put. Kalpani Wasalage earned two silver medals in the Women’s 30+ category in Discus Throw and Javelin Throw, while finishing fourth in Shot Put.
DFCC Bank athletes also delivered several notable bronze-medal performances. Geemali Athukorala secured bronze in both Javelin Throw and Shot Put in the Women’s 30+ category, while Nirasha Madakumbura won bronze in Hammer Throw and Shot Put in the Novices Women’s category. Zamri Hayauddin secured bronze in the Men’s 30+ Triple Jump, while Dumith Samarathunga earned bronze in the Men’s 30+ Javelin Throw.
Beyond the medal-winning performances, several other members of Team DFCC achieved strong placements across individual and relay events, reflecting the depth of talent within the Bank’s athletics team. Athletes competed across sprinting, jumping, throwing, race walking and relay events, demonstrating commitment, teamwork and competitive spirit throughout the championship.
