ANKA Technologies Driving STEM, Robotics, and AI Education in Alignment with Government Education Reforms

In a world increasingly driven by technology, Sri Lanka is taking bold strides to equip its younger generation with the skills necessary to thrive in the 21st century. Central to this vision is the integration of STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics), Robotics, and Artificial Intelligence (AI) into school education, closely aligned with the government’s ongoing education reforms and the structuring of the school system.
These initiatives mark a transformative moment in the nation’s journey toward creating a digitally empowered, innovation-led economy. By fostering curiosity, critical thinking, and creativity from a young age, Sri Lanka is preparing students to adapt to global trends.
STEM, Robotics, and AI education offer more than technical knowledge. These subjects teach students how to think logically, collaborate effectively, and apply learning to real-world problems.
With AI expected to impact over 60% of current jobs within the next two decades, Sri Lanka needs to integrate STEM, Robotics, and AI into its education system as a timely and essential initiative.
Among the passionate contributors to this transformation is ANKA Technologies, a pioneering EdTech company that has played a vital role in driving STEM, Robotics, and AI education across the country.
Founded with a mission to inspire the next generation of tech leaders, ANKA Technologies established the “School of Computing” in 2023, dedicated to promoting coding and digital literacy among school children. The institution soon gained international recognition through its accreditation from STEM.org USA, validating the quality and relevance of its educational offerings.
As part of its outreach, the company launched several impactful initiatives:
- STEM Mondays and STEM Camps in Kandy and Colombo, introducing hands-on STEM experiences to hundreds of students
- Development and delivery of a structured STEM curriculum aligned with both global standards and local educational needs
- Introduction of NAO, the humanoid robot, and Pepper, an AI conversational robot, into the classroom, creating awe-inspiring, real-life encounters with cutting-edge technology
These initiatives were not just for a technological showcase; they served a deeper purpose: to make AI and robotics approachable, meaningful, and engaging for young learners.
ANKA Technologies did not stop at just inspiring learners; it launched the STEM.org Certified™ Educational Instructor Certification Program with STEM.org USA to inspire teachers with modern STEM pedagogy and digital tool usage. With the Government making initiatives to incorporate STEM and STEAM into the current educational system, the teachers must be trained and given proper competence related to the dynamic field of STEM.
A key feature of the reform effort, and a value mirrored by institutions like ANKA, is the commitment to inclusivity. At present, we are making efforts to deliver programs designed to reach rural schools and underserved communities. This shared mission between public and private stakeholders reflects a unified goal: to democratize access to world-class STEM and AI education across Sri Lanka.
With collaborative efforts from the government and visionary organizations like ANKA Technologies, Sri Lanka is laying the groundwork for an education system that is innovative, inclusive, and internationally aligned. By equipping students with skills in STEM, robotics, and AI, the country is nurturing a generation of thinkers, creators, and leaders.
