The Sri Lankan passport has climbed nine notches higher and currently occupies the 84th position in the Passport Index 2018. It has been parallel ranked along with Lebanon and Libya. The Passport Index also notes that Sri Lankans have visa free access to 16 countries and visa on arrival in 29 countries. Nevertheless, access to 153 countries continues to require a visa.

The UAE is ranked as having the world’s most powerful passport, overtaking Singapore and Germany. UAE passport holders can gain access to 113 countries without obtaining a prior visa.
