Colombo Rowing Club to host 83rd Madras-Colombo Regatta, a celebration of historic sportsmanship

The Colombo Rowing Club is set to host the 83rd edition of the prestigious Madras-Colombo Regatta on August 3rd, starting at 1 PM. This historic event, the oldest sporting competition between India and Sri Lanka, is the longest-running continuous regatta between the two countries, celebrating decades of sportsmanship and camaraderie.

The regatta will feature 12 thrilling events, including eight men’s and four women’s competitions. The coveted “Deepam Trophy” will be awarded to the overall men’s category winners, while the “Adyar Trophy” will go to the women’s champions. The highlight of the regatta, the “Boat Race Trophy,” will be presented to the winners of the men’s senior fours.

In 2023, the Colombo Rowing Club won significantly by winning the Men’s overall category and securing the Deepam Trophy. They also triumphed in “The Boat Race Trophy” with an impressive points tally of 34-16. The Madras Boat Club, however, claimed victory in the Women’s category. In 2023, The Regatta was hosted at the Madras Boat Club in Chennai.

This year promises to be an exciting and closely contested event. The Madras Boat Club and the Colombo Rowing Club participants will showcase their rowing prowess. The event will draw a large audience, including dignitaries, sports enthusiasts, and club members.
