Not certain whether support from authorities can be expected. The tune of the tourism authorities is such that if you’re known to the minister, in snap time you’re handpicked and appointed to a high ranking post in the local authority or tourism sector. It does not justify the suitability and capability of the appointee. Perhaps the purpose is not the deliverables. There is no national agenda but a petty, personal and political agenda. So whom can we look up to?
A publicity boost – organised by the SLTDA, So Sri Lanka and Celebrate Colombo – was carried out in August to showcase that Sri Lanka is recovering and returning to normalcy after the bomb attacks. Sufficient justification is to be garnered to ascertain whether this road show was able to reverse the downturn of tourism for the better.
What can you expect from tourism authorities who had no strategy for SL tourism? So far it is the private sector, with professionals and the experienced, that ran the ‘tourism show’ in this country. In other words, the journey so far in SL tourism has been dependent on them. We’re unable to even notice whether authorities have stood up to their purpose of existence.
Well said. The authorities are wasting time. They are procrastinating and playing politics. It is nothing new! It is time we have independent authorities to run key industries. There is no need for ministers and their people!
Nothing is being done! They are just wasting money by going overseas and making various excuses! Better to ask the Private Sector to take over. Otherwise the only option will be to offer more and more discounts and that will not help the industry as margins will be far less. We also need proper branding for the destination; ‘So Sri Lanka’ is not enough!
