Sri Lanka tourist arrivals dip continues in August

Sri Lanka recorded a 28.3 percent year on year decline in tourist arrivals for August, according to data released by the Sri Lanka Tourism Development Authority.

This represents the fifth consecutive month in which the island has witnessed a drop in visitors compared to the previous year following the Easter Sunday terrorist attacks in April.

In August, 143,587 tourists visited the nation versus more than 200,000 in the corresponding month of 2018.


However, on a month on month basis, visitor arrivals to Sri Lanka grew by 24 percent in August.

In terms of cumulative arrivals in the period from May to August, the island witnessed a decline of 48.1 percent year on year.
