Q: What motivated you to join Idea Group as its new CEO, and what are your key objectives and targets for the group?

A: Idea Group has demonstrated impressive organisational capabilities, achieving rapid growth within a short span of time. We faced significant setbacks like the Easter attacks and COVID-19 pandemic but despite this, I’m committed to steering us through these challenges.

My main focus is boosting sales by improving product quality and optimising operations. I’ve introduced key performance indicators (KPIs) to monitor staff performance.

As a woman in construction, I’m proud of our achievements like reaching a turnover of Rs. 200 million within two years.

Q: Could you elaborate on Idea Group’s manufacturing process and products?

A: We specialise in manufacturing i-Panel products for roofing and flooring, along with a diverse range of iron and metal products. Our operations are divided into two distinct entities: Idea Industries and Idea Metals.

Q: How does Idea Group prioritise sustainability and environmental responsibility in its operations?

A: Sustainability is at the heart of Idea Group’s operations, guiding us in minimising our environmental footprint.

Our PVC-based ceiling products reduce reliance on wood, preserving forests. We’ve invested in a recycling plant to repurpose waste, minimising landfill use. Our water treatment facility ensures responsible water usage.

Adhering to ISO certifications underscores our commitment to sustainability. By integrating sustainability into our core strategies, we strive to make a positive environmental impact and ensure long-term success.

Q: Can you provide more details on Idea Group’s premium ceiling brand?

A: Idea Group leads the ceiling panel sector with our flagship product, the Sivilima i-Panel. Our commitment to quality ensures its reputation in the high-end market.

We’re driving employment and economic growth with 500 direct employees, and over 200 franchises creating numerous indirect opportunities and fostering community socioeconomic development through skill development and job creation.

Q: In what ways does Idea Group contribute to creating employment opportunities?

A: Idea Group’s impact on job creation is twofold: directly, we offer stable careers to around over 500 employees; and indirectly, our 200+ Sivilima showrooms, operating as franchises, generate opportunities in installation, transportation, design and more.

These showrooms not only promote our premium products but also stimulate local economic activity and entrepreneurship.

Q: How does Idea Group differentiate itself from competitors in the industry?

A: Our brand commands respect in the market due to our commitment to quality and aesthetics. Innovation drives us to redefine industry standards in product design continuously. Our flooring and wall panels exemplify this commitment, crafted with proprietary formulas and processes.

Though we source globally, each material undergoes rigorous vetting to meet our high standards. This dedication distinguishes us as leaders, consistently exceeding expectations and maintaining our pioneering reputation through innovation and quality prioritisation.

Q: Can you discuss any upcoming projects planned in the near future?

A: Under our Managing Director’s visionary leadership, Idea Group has achieved unprecedented growth, boasting a portfolio of 25 thriving companies. Our goal is to transition into a public listed company within the next five years.

I’m passionate about empowering women. With over 200 female employees, we advocate for diversity and inclusivity, aiming to create meaningful employment opportunities for at least 50,000 individuals through our ventures.

Our focus is now shifting to attracting the export market with investments in automated manufacturing processes for hinges and ceiling products.
