Weather forecast 26 April to 1 May 2019

(In reference with local and global model forecast and predictions)

A low-pressure area is developing over Equatorial Indian Ocean and adjoining southeast Bay of Bengal to the southeast of Sri Lanka around 26th April 2019. General public, Naval and fishing communities are requested to be attentive about future advisories issued by the Department of Meteorology in this regard.

Showers or thundershowers will occur over most parts of the island after 2.00 p.m. Fairly heavy falls above 75 mm can be expected at some places in Sabaragamuwa, Central, Southern and Uva provinces and in Ampara district.

The circulation might track north-westwards and may influence weather over Sri Lanka. Many numerical weather models showing this will intensify and travel closer to eastern coast of Sri Lanka toward India and make its landfall to eastern coast of India by 28 or 29 April.

Due to this disturbance, heavy rains may occur in entire western costal area from Matara to Jaffna and heavy fallas may occur in Jaffna, Killinochchi and Mullative areas. NWP products by Met department of Sri Lanka, shows increased rainfall during 27 to 29 April 2019.
