SEA PILING WORK COMPLETED AT WALKERS COLOMBO SHIPYARD

Walkers Piling, a subsidiary of MTD Walkers, successfully completed Sri Lanka’s first sea piling project at the Walkers Colombo Shipyard of the Mutwal Harbour. The sea piling work was carried out to enable the installation of a state-of-the-art shiplift and transfer system at the Mutwal Harbour that can lift ships of up to 1,200 tons in displacement and 65 metres in length, and included the installation and testing of 124 bored cast in-situ piles, of which 68 piles are allocated offshore with varying diameters from 750 mm to 1,200 mm. Walkers Colombo Shipyard designed and built a 1,000-ton barge, which was used to mount piling equipment during the offshore piling.
