Trade Promoters Limited (TPL) marked an important milestone on 16 November when the organisation completed its 45th successful year in business.

Joint Managing Director Anomal De Soysa recalls the ‘old days’ at his office – a converted one car garage by the beach in Colpetty with a staff of four. “I would ride my bicycle to the post office twice a week to pick up our mail,” he says.

Today, the company has grown to over 300 employees and operates offices in both Sri Lanka and the Maldives.

Having been incorporated in 1976, the company has navigated a 26 year civil conflict, and economic downturns due to financial crises and the COVID-19 pandemic.

“In the corporate world, age symbolises strength and security in an unpredictable marketplace. But this occasion isn’t just about one company. This is about celebrating 45 years as businesspeople, as innovators for our country and celebrating years of relationships with our customers and partners,” states Chairman Rohan M. Fernando.

TPL commemorated 45 years in business by establishing the Oscar J. Fernando Memorial Corporate Social Responsibility Fund, which is dedicated to conducting CSR projects across Sri Lanka, starting with a special project to support underprivileged school aged children. The fund honours its former Chairman Oscar J. Fernando, whose work ethic laid the foundation to build a resilient workforce that is able to adapt and evolve with time.

The organisation is the authorised sole distributor for global entities Cummins (diesel generators and engines for marine, construction and industrial applications) and Schindler (elevators and escalators). TPL enjoys a reputation as a market leader in both power generation and the elevator sectors.
