A meeting to enhance China-Sri Lanka bilateral relations concluded positively with the Ambassador of China in Colombo, Cheng Xueyuan, agreeing on behalf of the Government of China to provide support on LNG power plant technology to expand the electricity sector in Sri Lanka.

Minister of Power, Energy and Business Development Ravi Karunanayake, who met the ambassador, discussed the possibility of establishing an LNG power plant in Hambantota.

He further explained the issues faced in supplying electricity to meet increasing demand, and the alternate power sources such as solar, wind and LNG being explored by Sri Lanka.

Xueyuan extended an invitation to the minister to visit China to observe power projects and said he would explore the possibility of investing in LNG plants in Sri Lanka in the following weeks.
