A meeting to discuss an action plan for the elimination of corruption was held on 18 January at the Presidential Secretariat of Sri Lanka. Its aim was to ensure sustainable development in the economic, social, cultural, legal and environmental fields through relevant measures.

The topics of discussion included the strengthening of the Commission to Investigate Allegations of Bribery or Corruption (CIABOC) and investigation process, and the prosecution procedure and steps to be taken to eliminate fraud and corruption.

Moreover, the need for awareness and educational programmes in eliminating fraud and corruption was identified with the expectation that the national action plan approved by the cabinet would eradicate corruption among public officials through the participation of the public.

The gathering also discussed the prevention of fraud and corruption in the private sector, protecting those who speak out against corruption and limiting election funding for propaganda.
